The People-Powered $20K Challenge (#PP20K) is CAAAV Voice’s 10-day grassroots fundraising campaign that activates the collective power of our friends, families, and social networks to raise $20,000+ to support racial and economic justice to support our tenant organization work. The PP20K is rooted in the value that our movements should be driven by our people, and that there's a role for everyone.
So far this year, CAAAV Voice has:

Made a four-year rent freeze a central issue in NYC’s 2025 mayoral race. During the primary season, we doorknocked multiple times a week in Chinatown, Astoria, Sunnyside, Jamaica, and Sunset Park to get 5,000+ commitments from local tenants in support of a rent freeze.

Represented working class Asian immigrant leadership at key actions to push our members’ demand for a rent freeze and a more affordable city, providing transportation, simultaneous interpretation, and childcare so our members can participate.

Prioritized reaching our communities through in-language media to make it easier for our people to stay informed and civically engaged. Some examples here, here, and here.

Continued supporting Chinatown Tenants Union members in attending Rent Guidelines Board hearings so they could speak about their stories of surviving tenant harassment in Chinatown and the need for another rent freeze.

Endorsed and supported several progressive candidates in their successful campaigns for public office, including Zohran Mamdani, Alexa Aviles, and Shahana Hanif.
